Welcome to 2026
Escape into a great book!
Dear Gentle Beings,
I hope your new year brings new joy. I’m finding joy in reading, of course, and I’ve got some great new stuff for you!
First, Julia Huni’s newest Tales of a Former Space Janitor is out! Warp, Rinse, Repeat is wonderful fun!
Second, C Gockel’s new book, Beasts in the Garden, is out January 15th, 2026! The preorder is a great deal!
Third, today (Jan 10th) is the Urban Fantasy Free for All! I don’t have a book in this one, but there are a ton of great UF novels for nothing!
Fourth, The Amazing Sleeping Man has completed his review of 2025. I know you’ve all been breathlessly waiting! ;) You can find it here: https://www.amscottwrites.com/2025/12/30/2025-according-to-the-asm/
Fifth, for sci-fi fans looking for a place to hang out with other fans, I give you Space Station Unity! The group is hosted on Discord, which can be overwhelming if you’re not used to it. I recommend introducing yourself, scanning the other introductions, then go to your favorite sci-fi genre. Need a laugh? Check out the memes in the rec room. Don’t try and catch up with all the posts—you’ll go nuts!
In writing news, words continue to flow, if a bit slowly. My biggest issue right now is finding the right name for the book. I could go with a simple Time Guild 2, but that seems too easy. If you’ve got an idea, hit reply and let me know!
Life has been surprisingly quiet, which is good, because I’m still getting over the cold I developed in mid-December. I feel fine, but a cough lingers on. Despite the horrible weather events we’ve had in Montana so far, we haven’t needed a Team Rubicon Disaster Response operation, which is great! Requests for help are trickling in, now, so we’ll probably have some one or two day projects in the near future. But in most cases, neighbors helped neighbors—and that’s wonderful.
We’ve had very warm temperatures, so any snow we get disappeared quickly. But I think the snow we’re getting now might just stick around. We had a fabulous time on the slopes at Lost Trail Ski Area this week, with six inches of light, fluffy powder. Zoe is much happier with snow on the ground, and Shepherd Book doesn’t care, as long as he can run and play.
I hope that your weather is fabulous, and that you find joy, and new books, which is kind of the same thing!
Stay safe out there!
Cheers, AM
