February is for lovers
But I don't write sci fi romance!
Greetings Gentle Beings!
I hope January treated you well. It was—and still is—unusually warm and dry here in western Montana. There’s snow high in the mountains, but the valleys are brown. We haven’t been skiing/boarding, because there’s no new snow, and we’ve become powder snobs! I’m hoping we get lots in the next couple of months, or this summer might be grim. But then, I thought last summer would be bad for wildfire, and I was so happy to be wrong!
Zoe, our anxiety-ridden long hair German Shepherd, is particularly unhappy with the lack of snow. She likes the cold! We’re also trying a new medication and she’s on a diet. We knew she’d gained weight, but she’s gone from fluffy to fat—it’s hard to tell with all that fur.
Shepherd Book doesn’t care about weather—he just wants to go! Unfortunately, we’ve discovered his body may not keep up with his drive in the future. His shoulders have tendonitis, and his elbows have a defect with the arthritis of a twelve-year-old. He doesn’t show pain usually—probably learned as a puppy in a hoarder’s house—so it’s hard to tell if it hurts. We have a plan with our vet, but the options are somewhat limited. At three years old, it’s wait and see, and treat for pain relief as necessary.
I also needed half of January to get over the cold I caught in mid-December. The sinuses/coughing just hung on forever. I got some writing done, though, so there is progress on Time Guild 2. I’m still taking title suggestions!
Have you picked up Julia Huni’s new release? Warp, Rinse, Repeat is a blast!
Also, A Blacksmith’s Guide to Dragon Rearing is in my inbox for alpha reading! Woo Hoo!
C. Gockel has another new release! Beasts in the Garden came out Jan 15th and is $0.99 through Feb 15th. Intelligent Design, the sequel, is out now too!
Also, my friend Peter J. Foote has a book in a Story Bundle! The Undercover Aliens bundle is available for a limited time and it’s a great deal. When anyone could be an alien, who can you trust?
Finally, I know many people don’t want to hear about politics from authors. But as a retired military officer, I have an obligation to speak up when our elected leaders are breaking their oath to the Constitution. I did that on Jan 26th—if you’d like to read what I said, it’s on my social media and my website: https://www.amscottwrites.com/2026/01/30/showing-up-matters/
I hope that you are safe and warm—or cool, in the southern hemisphere!
Cheers, AM

Great blog post!
